My Writing Year in Review: 2025 Edition

A year of words, wins, and “well… that was unexpected.”

As the year wraps up and my coffee mug collection grows by an alarming yet somehow comforting number, I’ve been reflecting on what I actually accomplished in my writing life. Spoiler: more than I thought. Isn’t it funny how we always assume we’re “not doing enough,” and then suddenly we’re staring at a list thinking, Oh wow, look at me go.

Here’s the highlight reel of my year in writing — equal parts triumph, growth, and character‑building plot twists.

I Took a Writing Class… and Apparently Aced It

This year I completed a Journaling & Memoir Writing class and walked away with a 98% score. Ninety. Eight. Percent. I don’t want to brag, but if gold stars were still a thing, I’d need a whole bulletin board.

I Wrote a Short Story and Entered a Competition

I wrote a little piece called “Creature Comfort” and submitted it to an anthology competition. Did it get selected? Nope. Did I dramatically sigh and eat a cookie? Absolutely. But honestly, I’m proud of myself for putting my work out there. Rejection is just part of the writer’s cardio routine.

I Was Chosen to Review a Year of Writer’s Journey Boxes

One of the most delightful surprises of the year was that I was selected to receive a full year of Writer’s Journey Boxes in exchange for honest feedback. Free writing goodies showing up at my door every month. Yes, please. It’s like a subscription box, but instead of makeup or snacks, it’s pure creative fuel. I’m going to write more about this project in the new year, so be on the lookout!

I Was Invited to a Free Online Book Promotion & Interview Event

Another fun milestone. I was chosen to participate in a free online book promotion/interview event. Nothing makes you feel more like a Real Author™ than being asked to talk about your work while trying not to overthink your answers.

I Read 7 Books

Seven whole books. Is it as many as I planned? Of course not. Is it more than zero? Yes, and that’s what counts. Besides, writers who read are writers who grow — and I’ll take growth in any form that doesn’t involve kale.

Wrapping It Up

So that’s my year in writing. A mix of learning, creating, submitting, being chosen, being not chosen, and staying curious through it all. Honestly, I’m proud of this messy, meaningful, coffee‑fueled journey.

Here’s to next year — more stories, more courage, more cozy writing sessions, and maybe even a few more books read (but no promises).

If you’re reading this, thanks for being part of my writing world. It means more than you know. Happy New Year!
